Ponce Serrallés Castle & Cruz del Vigía
One of many landmarks of the city of Ponce is a 100-foot-tall cross known as “Cruz Del Vigia”. It’s located at the same spot on El Vigía Hill where early Spanish settlers once looked out for merchant ships and would-be invaders. It houses a tourist center at its base, a 10 story vertical tower, and a horizontal sky bridge that has panoramic views of the city and the Caribbean Sea. |
Right next to it locates the Serrallés Castle. It’s the largest and most imposing building in Ponce, constructed during the 1930s by the Serrallés family.
The Castle became one of the architectural gems of Puerto Rico and has been turned into a museum featuring some of the family's medieval collections, and a “said” top-notch exhibition detailing the history of Puerto Rico's sugar cane and rum production industries.
During your visit to this attraction you will take a tour through the Spanish Revival house with Moorish and Andalusian details. Highlights include panoramic courtyards, sparkling fountains, a baronial dining room, a beautiful indoor patio, a small café and souvenir shop.
