Bioluminescence Bay
In Puerto Rico, the day doesn't end when the sun goes down. Take a relaxing kayak tour at sunset that leads you to the fascinating Laguna Grande of Fajardo. Under the blanket of the night sky and the historical lighthouse of Fajardo, you can touch the water and literally make it glow. When physically agitated, such as by a propeller or the motion of a hand in the water, bioluminescent organisms light up in a manner similar to glow worms or fire flies. While the organisms themselves are tiny there are a large number of them that light up simultaneously.
This fascinating natural phenomenon occurs sporadically in warm seas around the world and Puerto Rico is one of the few places on the planet that has three of the most spectacular bays. The trip starts off at the beach where you will board a kayak and paddle across the mangrove channels of “Las Cabezas de San Juan” natural reserve. On the way there, our guides will give you information about this wonder of nature and you will be able to appreciate nocturnal animal life. This unforgettable tour includes lifejackets, paddles and refreshments.

As this excursion operates in the evening, visibility can be limited. Therefore, guests are discouraged from bringing non-waterproof cameras or any other items that they wish not to get wet. Don’t forget your swimsuit and towel. This tour is not suitable for people with fear of dark, water or has heart conditions, back problems or ladies 6 months or further in pregnancy.
